Supply Reservoirs

The City of Albany draws water from two primary upland reservoirs located in the Helderberg Mountains.

1. Alcove Reservoir

  • Type: Primary Supply.
  • Capacity: ~12 Billion Gallons.
  • Characteristics: High quality, low turbidity water.
  • Intake: Water flows by gravity to the Filtration Plant.

2. Basic Creek Reservoir

  • Type: Secondary / Feeder Supply.
  • Function: Flows into Alcove Reservoir via a connecting tunnel.
  • Management: Used to top off Alcove during dry seasons.
